Random stone walls terracing a sloped lawn

A back garden with a 2m slope from back to front, no use at all to young children. We terraced it with as few levels as we could manage, laid 280m2 of turf and paved the patios in Kandla grey. Four months, straight through a winter.

The slope ran 2m from the back of the garden down to the front, which left nowhere flat for young children to play. The design was ours, and it used minimal terracing.

What we built

We removed 130 tons of spoil, used around 54m2 of random stone, brought in 30 tonnes of river sand and laid 280m2 of turf. The patios went down in Kandla grey pavers.

The weather

It was a four-month build over the winter, and the rain barely let up. The site became a messy bog in no time. We worked through it.
