We are a garden landscaping and design firm based in West Yorkshire. We have built gardens across Yorkshire since 1999.

Welcome to Gagajoo Landscapes and Gardens. Founded as a family business by Steve Clayton back in 1999, we have spent over two decades transforming outdoor spaces across West Yorkshire. People often ask us what our name means: "Gagajoo" is an Aboriginal word meaning "before the beginning." It's a philosophy that captures what we do. Each project we touch starts out as an area that needs to be recreated or adapted for its owners. We take pride in managing everything from that blank canvas up to the final reveal.

As a local Yorkshire business, we have built gardens across Leeds, the surrounding areas of West Yorkshire, and sometimes beyond. Over two decades, we have helped many homeowners unlock the potential of their outdoor spaces.

We believe that your garden should be more than an outdoor area. It should be a sanctuary, a place for family gatherings, and a reflection of your lifestyle. Whether you are looking for a complete garden redesign, a bespoke patio, or planting schemes, we work with you from initial concept to the final handover to bring your vision to life.

No matter the size or shape of your garden, we approach each project with the same enthusiasm. Let us help you create an outdoor space to enjoy for years to come.

At Gagajoo, we bridge the gap between creative garden design and engineered construction. We handle both the design and the build in-house, so the project stays in one pair of hands from start to finish. We use high-quality materials and, wherever we can, local labour.

Accountability for our work is important to us. From the first conceptual sketch to the final stone laid, your project is handled by our permanent, local team. Keeping the work in our own team means we take ownership of the design, the build and the finish.

Clarity before work starts. A successful project relies on clarity, trust and that our customers understand what they are getting. Through design, we walk the areas with you, draw our layouts, and work through changes with you until the plan is right. We don't like surprises either, so we agree the design, schedule and costs with you before we start building.

We are TrustMark registered. TrustMark is the Government-endorsed quality scheme for work in and around the home, so our work is checked by somebody outside the business.

Serving our local community

A sandstone patio edged with a low brick retaining wall, timber sleeper steps and a sleeper raised bed

We are committed to supporting the local economy that has supported us for over two decades.

Wherever we can, we source our hard landscaping stone, timber, aggregates, and soft planting from trusted, independent merchants across Yorkshire. This not only cuts down on unnecessary transport costs, it means your garden is built with high-quality materials that belong in the local landscape, and supports the local economy.

Redesigning a garden does not mean everything has to go to waste. Where practicable, we look for ways to reuse materials already in your garden. That might mean crushing old paving slabs to create a sub-base for a new feature, incorporating existing stones into a new wall, or saving structural bases. Sometimes we discover hidden gems in your garden that keep its history and heritage alive.

What we do

Patios and paving, drives, walls and steps, turf and planting, decking, pergolas and fencing, and water features. Sloped gardens are our specialism. We take on commercial work as well as domestic.

What we don't do

We do not do tree surgery. We know some good tree surgeons, and we can usually suggest someone.

  • Ben Rhydding
A random stone retaining wall with lights set into it, holding back the newly turfed lawn

A garden in Ben Rhydding fell two metres from back to front, with nowhere flat for young children to play. We took out 130 tons of spoil, built terraces in random stone and laid 280 square metres of turf.

  • Rawdon
The three-ring promenade stone circle at the centre of the new patio

In Rawdon, one of two ponds was filled in and paved over. A three-ring stone circle now sits in old York paving, edged with midnight blue setts.

  • Garforth
The semi-circular patio with curved steps up to the house and planting either side

In Garforth, a plan drawn by hand became a stone circle of two semi-circular patios, and a summerhouse at the top of the garden. A gravel path curves round the lawn and down the slope, so no steps were needed.

The hand-drawn garden plan for the Garforth job

The same team designs the garden and builds it, so the design carries straight through to what we build. We tidy up before we leave.

Design in five stages

  1. Stage 1

Get in touch and book a garden review. If you have photos of the garden, send them and we can look at them before we visit.

  2. Stage 2

We visit your garden and discuss your ideas. We draw up a plan, review it with you, and work through changes together.

  3. Stage 3

We order the materials and get everything ready to start work.

  4. Stage 4

We begin work on your garden and keep you updated on progress. On larger projects, we check in with you at the main stages.

  5. Stage 5

The project is complete when the agreed work is finished, we have walked it with you, and the site is cleared and tidied.
